Your offer’s been accepted, congratulations! But before you start packing, there are critical next steps to keep your purchase on track. Many buyers in the Chicago suburbs, including DuPage County communities like Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, and Lombard, don’t realize how time-sensitive this stage of the process is. Missing a deadline can put you in breach of contract or even jeopardize the sale. Here’s what to expect once your offer is accepted.

Submit Paperwork and Start the Attorney Review

The first five days after acceptance are crucial. All purchase paperwork needs to be sent to your attorney and lender immediately. During this period:

  • Your attorney will review the contract, request modifications if needed, and ensure you’re protected legally.

  • Your lender will start processing the loan and order the appraisal.

This five-day attorney review and inspection window is standard in DuPage County, and staying on top of it keeps the deal moving smoothly.


Deposit Your Earnest Money Right Away

Your earnest money must be deposited with the agreed-upon party, whether it’s the listing broker, attorney, or title company. This shows the seller you’re serious and keeps you compliant with your contract timelines.
